TFE’s focus has been firmly on innovation and excellence since its creation. Here are some of the ways in which we have helped to drive innovation in electronic design.
A company with advanced technology at its heart
Technofan Electronique (TFE) was founded by Technofan and Divertec in 1987. It started with six people in a small office in Toulouse, the centre of Airbus commercial aircraft.
Within a few years, the team had expanded to 15 and in 1989, they moved to a new building in Blagnac, Toulouse.
In this decade, the company launched its first unit for Airbus – the CED (cooling effect detector).
Recognition, growth and innovation…
In 1990, the company’s power inverters were certified for SAAB 2000 aircraft, the first aircraft with a variable frequency network.
In 1991, TFE became an exclusive subsidiary of Divertec.
1992 saw more expansion and it moved to Montgiscard, southwest of Toulouse.
In 1996, the first equipment was qualified by ESA for space.
Continuing to build for the future
In 2001, TFE combined with ELTA to create a joint venture ENAIR’GIE.
In the same year, they launched the fly-by-wire power supply for Dassault, a high performance power converter.
In 2005, the Artus group acquired TFE.
2006 saw TFE and BIP (another Artus company) combining to specialise in power electronics and motor drives. The same year, TFE became an Airbus Tier 1 supplier supplying A320 and A330 Transformers
In 2008, the company launched a new line of active power filters for the Rafale fighter.
In 2009, TFE was selected to supply equipment for the A350.
An exciting period of further development
The company expanded again and in 2010, 70 people moved to new premises in Zone Artisud, Toulouse.
In 2011, Artus was acquired by Meggitt and became part of the Meggitt Sensing Systems.
In 2014, the company launched a new starter boost system, which provides extra energy during engine start-up.
It also passed the first two phases of the Meggitt Production System for operational excellence in lean manufacturing.
Today, Meggitt is a world leader in power electronics and motor drives for aerospace industries and continues to build on its high standards, with more innovative and high quality products in the pipeline.
